Opposite Strengths History

The Opposite Strengths system is the product of careful research and development since 1955. The system continues to evolve today with more and more people applying it in their organizations and in their daily lives.

Jay Thomas, EdD, first conceived the Opposite Strengths system in his role as a pioneering executive coach in the 1950s and 1960s. His unique and positive approach to understanding people through pairs of strengths was a direct outgrowth of his experience in working with hundreds of successful executives in many types of industries. Dr. Thomas continues to write and develop our understanding of the Opposite Strengths system today.

In 1982, after completing his PhD in psychometrics, Tommy Thomas continued the pioneering executive coaching that his father originated and expanded to many more executives and organizations. He teamed up with his father in the continuing effort to study, validate and refine the Opposite Strengths system. Since that time, over 100,000 people in 1,300 organizations have been taught to use Opposite Strengths and use it as a daily tool to initiate and sustain their and their organizationŐs success. Dr. Thomas continues that same work today.
